  34. I'm sure everyone except the digital-phobes would climb all over me, and it
  35. would get rather nasty. My main point was that a lot of video people already
  36. have access to Hi-Fi VCR's and may not realize how good an alternative to
  37. DAT it is, especially when they can't get ahold of the latter. Hi-Fi also
  38. fits extremely well into a video editing environment, while DAT machines
  39. with nine-pin serial and time code are still rare and expensive. I wouldn't
  40. suggest that anyone master an album to it for a couple reasons, but those
  41. don't have anything to do with sound quality. What other analog recording
  42. format do you know of that has an S/N ratio of 90 dB or better, and an
  43. essentially ruler-flat response from 20 to 20 (depending on which deck you
  44. get)? A perfectly adjusted open reel deck with outboard DBX might come close
  45. on a good day, but how many of those are built in almost as an afterthought
  46. when you buy pro or semi-pro video gear?
